Dissecting at the Table

Dissecting at the table – a surgical approach to cutlery.

Dissecting at the Table is a unique cutlery concept that draws inspiration from the world of surgical instruments. The goal of this design was to challenge traditional eating habits and bring precision, focus, and minimalism to the dining experience.

The set is sleek, delicate, and sharp—intentionally resembling medical tools. Just like a surgeon at the operating table, the diner becomes highly aware of each movement. Instead of large portions and quick bites, the user makes small, precise cuts and pays close attention to every gesture. This transforms the act of eating into a slower, more mindful ritual.

Originally presented in 2008 at the “Ver-rückt” exhibition at the Swiss National Museum in Zurich, this project questions and redefines our relationship with food and tableware.

Dissecting at the Table is more than a set of utensils—it’s a conversation starter and an artistic exploration of design, behavior, and culture.
